In the past few years, there have been many advancements made in the name of
security and safety for truck drivers. Manufacturers took it upon themselves to
develop new technologies to increase the safety mechanisms and devices that a
truck can have to protect the truck driver, the truck, and the public. A massive
improvement has been made to collision alert and sensors in the past couple of
years, since trucks are much bigger than the average motor vehicle, it also
means they have way more blind spots and dangerous situations.
The improvement in the collision alert lets drivers know when it is safe to merge,
when vehicles are in the proximity let it be in the front, rear, or sides of
the cab and trailer. There has been an advancement in braking systems as well
since trucks can be very dangerous when there is brake failure or unstable
pavement.
“Safety First is Safety Always”
There are two major types of braking systems, ABS and Air Brakes, both of which have equal amounts of advantages. Air Brakes can function even if there is a major leak compared to hydraulic brakes where a minor leak can mean complete failure of the system, however, ABS is equipped in majority of the vehicles today because of the amount of safety provided by them. ABS stands for Anti-Lock Braking System which is an anti-skid system that helps prevent the locking of brakes or the application of too much pressure that would prevent your axle and wheels to turn and therefore cause skidding and dangerous situations. These are just a few examples of the improvements that manufacturers have been doing to help protect the workers of our industry, and they will keep making improvements because safety is everyone’s number one priority
